Reflections is a weekly meme hosted by Kristin of A Simply Enchanted Life and Fizzy of Fizzy Pop Collection. Every Sunday we will dig deeper in our recent reads to explore the real-life lessons within the pages. Reading the book yourself is not necessary to participate. If you would like to host your own reflection, you’re welcome to copy and paste this introduction, with the link to our pages. You may use our current or prior reflections or come up with your own.
In the collection ‘An Amish Christmas Love‘ Amy Clipston wrote the novella ‘ The Christmas Cat’. By the end of the story, Emma realizes that the young people she had spent her Christmas with had become her family. Was there ever a time when your friends felt like family members?
I grew up in a family that wasn’t really close. My dad was a long haul truck driver and my mom can be difficult. While I have few friends, I would say that I have quality friends. My friend Angela has dropped everything to go with me to important out-of-town doctor visits when I had no one else. She sat with me when my four year old had an MRI or when the girls needed an echocardiogram.
My friend Fizzy is the only one I talk to on the phone frequently. She is the one I think of to call when I’ve met an author or when I have a new ARC in the mail. In this regard, she understands me more than my family. I can call her to talk about whatever. It doesn’t have to be a set topic with Fizzy. One moment we may be discussing politics and the next minute sims.
I could keep naming names, the one I go to when I need to laugh or the one I go to for advice. Alecia, Jami, Dani and so on…these people have all fulfilled a family role for me. They are the kind of family that is there by choice and not because they are obligated.
Was there ever a time when your friends felt like family members?

I love today’s segment. Friends become family sometimes. It’s not always about blood. I’m glad you have Angela and some of the others, too! :)

Yes, they sure do! Quality over quantity for me describes my friendships. But, I’m so blessed!
