Reflections is a weekly meme hosted by Kristin of A Simply Enchanted Life and Fizzy of Fizzy Pop Collection. Every Sunday we will dig deeper in our recent reads to explore the real-life lessons within the pages. Reading the book yourself is not necessary to participate. If you would like to host your own reflection, you’re welcome to copy and paste this introduction, with the link to our pages. You may use our current or prior reflections or come up with your own.
In ‘Written in Love‘ by Kathleen Fuller, Phoebe Bontrager accidentally sends a letter to the wrong person. Jalon Chupp accidentally falls in love with Phoebe through these letters. Jalon also accidentally finds out that Phoebe has a young son, Malachi. Along the way Jalon bonds with Malachi over a toy yo-yo. What was your favorite childhood toy?
Some of you may not be surprised by this answer, I didn’t play with toys! Reading was always my thing. I started reading at age three and I can’t recall any favorite toys. I do remember that my favorite book as a toddler was one called Archie Angel—a book written in the 1950’s by Margot Austin. It’s likely out of print these days but I carried that book everywhere. I wish I still had it.
By the time I was six, I was reading Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys. I guess I’ve always been a weird duck. So, yeah…I can’t recall ever having a favorite toy. I do remember asking for a Baby Alive when I was eight. I was so disappointed that eating was mechanical and that the bottle ran straight through. I just couldn’t get the whole play thing. I guess I had been expecting a baby doll with the actual ability to eat, pee and poop. Odd duck indeed…
What about you? Did you play with toys? Did you have a favorite?
