Last week Jami and I were back in Sweet Valley with the Wakefield twins as we read and reviewed book #2, Secrets.
Series: Sweet Valley High #2
Published by Bantam Books on December 31st, 1983
Pages: 118
Beautiful and ruthless, Jessica Wakefield is determined to be chosen queen of the fall dance at Sweet Valley High. If she can win the contest, she’s sure to win Bruce Patman, the most sought after boy in school.
The only person standing in Jessica’s way is Enid Rollins. When Jessica discovers the truth about Enid’s past, she knows the crown is within her grasp. She doesn’t care that Enid is her twin sister Elizabeth’s best friend or that revealing the secret may cost Enid both her reputation and the boy she loves. Only Elizabeth can save Enid from Jessica’s vicious gossip but can she stop her scheming twin in time?
Warning: This post may contain spoilers about Secrets (Sweet Valley High #2) by Francine Pascal.
1. We know that there were several ghost writers in the SVH series. If you were chosen to write a book and had to choose to focus on the story of a secondary character from Book 1 or Book 2, who would it be?
I’d like to know more about Winston. Why is he so infatuated with Jessica. Did she flirt with him or do something that made him think he had a chance with her. Inquiring minds want to know why Winston would care for Jessica because she is NOT a nice girl.
2. Jessica makes it clear that there are no secrets in Sweet Valley. If you were Liz, how would you try to convince Jess to mind her own business?
Well, if I were Liz, I’d be a total pushover and do nothing. Since I’m not Liz…I would disown Jessica. At least long enough that she would learn that I wouldn’t let her bully me Jessica is a narcissistic abuser and she shouldn’t be trusted. I would distance myself from her and have nothing to do with her.
3. If you could rewrite one of the events that happened to one character in Secrets, what would it be and how would you change it?
I would have had Elizabeth win Queen and Patman would have been king. Jessica would have hated that more than having to serve as queen with Winston!
Sweet Valley High Homecoming Fashion Board
In Secrets, Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield attend their school’s homecoming dance. Jami and I decided to focus on their clothes that we think some of the characters may have chosen for the dance. Check out our Homecoming Board and find out who we think would wear these clothes!
Check back next week for a review of book #3, Playing with Fire!

Watch out, Sweet Valley High! Once again, Jessica Wakefield has gotten her way. Fresh from her greatest social triumph, Jessica proceeds to sink her hooks into rich, handsome Bruce Patman, the most eligible, sought-after guy at SVH.
Or has Bruce gotten his hooks into Jessica? Elizabeth, Jessica’s twin, notices a big change in her sister. Suddenly Jessica’s following Bruce everywhere and dropping everything just to spend time with him.
Elizabeth doesn’t trust Bruce one bit – he’s arrogant, demanding, and way too fast. Jessica can usually hold her own with any guy, but this time Elizabeth’s afraid her sister may be going too far…
