Jessica’s at it again!
Jessica Wakefield has sworn never to allow Annie Whitman onto the Sweet Valley High cheering squad. Annie may have the beauty, talent, and spirit to be a cheerleader, but she also has the worst reputation in school. She goes out with a different boy every night, and all the kids call her “Easy Annie” behind her back. Jessica’s pulling every devilish
Do you remember that random 3-star review with SVH #9? It was a fluke. I was back to wanting to kill Jessica again with the Wrong Kind of Girl.
Here’s the basic idea of the story. Jessica slut shames “Easy Annie” and vows she will never be on her cheerleading squad. To save myself, I can’t figure out why Jessica is calling anyone easy when she’s with a new guy every single book, sometimes two at a time. Hypocrite much?
Anyway, Jessica pushes and conspires against Annie until the poor girl attempts suicide. In true Jessica fashion, she makes the entire thing out to be about her. Begging Annie not to die because “I won’t be able to live with myself if you die!” Then she offers Annie a spot on the cheerleading squad. Annie finds her will to live and once again I’m wondering how in the world I read these as a teen. I can’t even imagine what psychological damage that Jessica did to me. Thanks a LOT, Jessica.
Anyway, we’re back to a one-star rating. Again. Sadly, I’m giving up hope for this series to get any better. So join me next time for what will likely be a one-star review when I pick up ‘Too Good To Be True.’

I think I read every single SVH written when I was a tween. I remember disliking greatly Jessica, but I loved Elizabeth. I’ve been enjoying your reviews. You’re SO right…they’re awful books. I’m never going to give them to my kid. Too damaging.

My almost 17 year old is mature enough to read and know how awful they are. She read one book and said she just cant force herself to read more ?

Good for your daughter to be discerning. ☺?
