City of the Dead by Tracy L. Higley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I was so excited to pick up this book as I have an autographed copy. That is always motivation enough to pick up a book! I was also drawn to the beautiful cover as well. The cover model is exotic and the traditional eye makeup is enchanting. The cover alone made me want to visit ancient Egypt! I will admit though—I did inwardly groan when I realized that it was written in first person but I figured since I liked The Hunger Games then I may like this one too. I’m glad I gave it a chance!
Hemi has always loved Merit but she was promised to the boy who would become the Pharaoh of Egypt. Time has passed and Hemi is now the Grand Vizier and Merit is the Great Queen. When a series of gruesome murders begin to take place—Hemi is determined to get to the bottom of it. The problem is that investigating these murders may stir up dark secrets from the past. Secrets that the Pharaoh, Hemi and their circle of friends would like to remain hidden.
I really did enjoy this story. I was whisked away atop an ancient pyramid and immersed into the rituals and beliefs of ancient Egypt. Overall I thought that the story was edgy and it made my heart race. The truth of God’s sovereign was evident and redemption was the resounding theme.
“He is our Redeemer, who will provide the way for us to be reconciled to the One True God”
Thank God that he is our Redeemer and I am so thankful for Christian authors that minister through their works of faith and fiction. If you enjoy Christian historical fiction and you’re interested in the Seven Wonders of the World—PICK UP THIS BOOK! You will not be disappointed!
About the Author:
The author of nine historical fiction novels, including the popular
Seven Wonders series, Higley isn’t just transporting readers: She’s
transporting herself, too.
“My Iifelong interest in history and mythology has taken me to Italy,
Greece, Egypt, Rome, Turkey, Jordan and Israel, where I’ve gotten to
study those ancient cultures in rich detail,” says Higley.
“It’s my desire to shine the light of the gospel into the cultures of the past,
and I figure what better way to do that than to visit the cultures
themselves?”
