Oh! This is a tough topic for me because I rarely pay attention to reviews when I disliked a book! But, I’ll try my best!
1. Wintersong
The rape culture in this book really bothered me. The main character constantly pressured her husband for sex, even grabbing at his clothes and his genitals to try to get her way. When she didn’t, she destroyed a room or tried to guilt him. Not to mention, her whole self worth was tied up in losing her virginity. I saw so much hype for this book and once I read it, I was so surprised at how disgusting I found it.
2. A Song Unheard
This was one of my rare “Did not Finish,” books. Everyone else on my friend’s list loved this book but I found it tedious and boring. Not to mention, every single character sounded the same. So many other people loved this book that I actually had some not-so-nice bloggers that were leaving me comments about how I had to be high and drunk and then bragging about how they rated me as, “not helpful,” on Amazon.
3. Unblemished
“Click-clack, click-clack.”
“Chip. Crack. Shatter.”
“Thud,rattle,bang! Bellow,yell,holler!”
“Splash,slosh,splash.
“Drip,drip,drip.”
“Flip. Flap. Flit.
“Flip. Scan. Turn.”
“Shuffle. Creak.”
I have no idea how people read books with all of THAT in it. I just can’t. I can’t. So many people loved this book and I hated the sound effects so badly that I won’t pick up the rest of the series to see how things turn out.
4. The Christmas Shoes
I read this book so long ago that I can’t even remember why I hated it. I just remember that I couldn’t figure out all of the hype. I didn’t even review back then so I don’t have a review to look back on. All I know is, I didn’t like it. I also didn’t like the other two books that I picked up of hers either. Which seems like a sin considering what a Christmas freak I am.
Check this book out on Goodreads.
5. The Inheritance Cycle (Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr, Inheritance)
I didn’t outright hate all the series at first. After I read the last book, I knew I’d never read the series ever again. There is no conclusion and a rather anticlimactic end. The whole mess is a Star Wars/Lotr rip off and the writer has a weird obsession with telling you about Nasuada’s black skin 50 billion times. I’m all for diversity but it came off like someone called him racist and he had to try to prove he wasn’t. I won’t even get into the fact that the story concluded like 100 pages in and then he spent another 400 tying up side stories that were not even a part of the main plot. The only thing worse than this book? The movie.
What about you? Did you like these books? Tell me why in the comments below!

I’m sorry people were rude to you about not liking A Song Unheard. You are totally allowed your own opinion about a book. Doesn’t say much that Christian reviewers and commentators would be mean to you. No one should ever be made to feel badly for a difference of opinion.

Completely agreed!

I don’t understand this need to bash bloggers for their opinions. Jeez.

Hi Kristin! I haven’t read these books, but one I did read that everyone but me seemed to like was “The Girl on the Train”. I read fast and skip over unimportant things like chapter titles, so I was halfway through the book before I even realized the chapters were two different women telling their stories. Yes, I found the story line confusing – my fault, but I felt that both characters had the exact same “voice”. Didn’t find the plot that great either. Is it just me?

I actually haven’t read that one! I might have to give it a try one day :-)

My girl, what are you doing up at 2:00 in the morning? Reading, I bet! I hope you are in the middle of a wonderful book AND get a good night’s sleep!

Netflix binge ?

That sounds like fun! I still hope you get a good night’s sleep. And if you ever do read “The Girl on the Train”, make sure and pay attention to the chapter titles so you can follow the story better than I did ;-)
