We are thrilled that we were able to convince Vannetta Chapman to join us on our blogs today. And by convince, I may or may not mean beg but that’s neither here nor there. Welcome, Vannetta and we promise we will try to go easy on you.
Kristin: First things first. Have you yet regretted the choice to invite Fizzy and I to your Street Team this year? We are well aware (right Fizzy?) that we are a special kind of crazy and may or may not be a handful.
Vannetta: No regrets. You girls are a hoot, which I realized last year. I’ve enjoyed the interaction and more importantly the friendship that we’re developing. VC Street Team 2018 ROCKS.
Fizzy: Wow Kristin, that was so serious compliment fishing. Feeling the need to be validated? Though I completely agree that the VC Street Team is pretty amazing!
Kristin: Well, we are a special kind of crazy. I needed to know we hadn’t scared her off yet.
Fizzy: I personally am more than a little heartbroken that ‘Who the Bishop Knows’ is Henry’s last story and you will be ditch- erm I mean leaving him for new adventures. With Henry now in the rearview who do we get to fall in love with next?
Vannetta: Next up is a young handicapped boy named Matthew and his “mamm” Hannah. These two will pull at your heart strings, especially when they meet a local Amish bachelor who builds playhouses for handicapped children. I can tell you, “A Widow’s Hope” was a blast to research (these playhouses are amazing), and the characters had me in tears more than once.
Kristin: I can’t wait to meet Matthew and Hannah! I’ll make sure to buy a box of tissues before reading this new series. :-)
Fizzy: And I notice there was no mention of self-pub for continuing Henry. It was worth a shot. However, I’m always game for new adventures so bring on Matthew and Hannah.
Kristin: Inquiring minds need to know what one might listen to when one is writing Amish murder mysteries. Is there a playlist that helps to set the scene and develop the characters or do you need silence to exact your cozy murders?
Vannetta: I do actually have a “playlist” for each book – – it helps me to focus! Sometimes they are just songs that I can easily imagine my characters singing along with…even though they’re Amish and don’t listen to contemporary music! But you know…it’s the heart of the song that matters. So for Who the Bishop Knows, some of my songs were “I Remember You” by Kris Allen, “In Case You Didn’t Know” by Brett Young and “When You Say Nothing At All” by Lauren Duski. But my absolute favorite for this book was “It Ain’t My Fault” by Brothers Osborne. That song is now seared into my brain.
Fizzy: I love some of those songs. Now I have to make a playlist for reading. ‘It Ain’t My Fault’ still gets a lot of play time on radio stations here and yes it does sear in :D
Kristin: I must be a young whippersnapper. I don’t know these songs. Hrmm. Maybe I’ll look them up.
Fizzy: Oh hunnie, they are country songs.
Kristin: Oh, nevermind then.
Kristin: If the FBI were to read your internet search history what would be the most interesting thing they would find from book research? I mean, they are already listening to Fizzy and I talk about Sims tortu-, just Sims so we pretty much already have dibs on the outlandish.
Vannetta: The FBI and I go way back. I’m kidding! But you know, sometimes I have that talk with my husband. “Honey. If they find out I was checking how much fuel is stored above ground at Ft. Hood Military Base, and if they come to arrest me, hire a good lawyer.” Yeah, we have those conversations. I suppose the research on how to kill someone and then the research into my dystopian series (which was cataclysmic and therefore required a lot of nefarious stuff)…would land me in trouble the most.
Fizzy: So do you hear the buzzing on your phone too when you talk plot? No need to respond, we know they are watching…
Kristin:
Fizzy: It has to be said after all this time. Fizzyfied alibis are all the rage, do you have a #FizzyfiedAlibi yet?
Vannetta: My #FizzyfiedAlibi is that I was walking the dog…and the dog will back me up on that
Thank you for joining us today for this fun little chat! Vannetta and Fizzy are a lot of fun to hang out with. I hope you’ll join me back on the blog for the release date (March 6th) for my review of Who the Bishop Knows!
