Big updates for this week. I’ve been rather silent that I had a doctor’s visit coming up. I can share information about the children but I feel weird about bringing attention to myself. Having said that, I had my official genetics appointment this past week and at age 35, I’ve been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome: Hypermobility Type. That now makes three of six children diagnosed and myself. The bad genes are strong with us!
Speaking of the children, Piper’s surgery date has been set for February 5th. She’s having a VMO advancement with medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction. Basically, they’re going to take tendons from a donor and reconstruct her knee so that it stops dislocating daily. Due to her postural orthostatic tachycardia and orthostatic hypotension, this will be an inpatient procedure. We crave prayers and well wishes!
Now, all that is out of the way and I want to move right along to the bookishly good stuff!

Will keep your family in my prayers. I pray the surgery goes well and that her recovery is swift.

I want to try and dedicate a lot of time to Crusade and Jihad this week, which sort of reads like a textbook (but a good one) dealing with the relations between the ‘global north’ and the muslim world. It’s VERY interesting, but it’s so much to take in that it’s slow going… I think I will come out the other side a lot wiser though :)
Kristin says
Oh, that sounds interesting! Enjoy!
Lola says
Hope all goes well for you and your family.
Kristin says
Thanks!

Best wishes for her surgery! Anything would be better than having your knee dislocate on a daily basis! You can’t catch a break health wise ??
Kristin says
This was an ongoing problem due to her condition. We have tried strengthening it for a year and they felt it was just time. So we are hoping it helps. I appreciate the well wishes!
