“Silent Night, Holy Night. All is Calm, all is bright.”
There’s something about those words that embodies the spirit of Christmas. A certain feeling of serenity and hope that I feel on the cold winter nights when the world feels calm and bright. I feel joy, hope, and peace in those lyrics.
It’s so easy to forget the calm and peace of Christmas when we’re bustling about—especially with the commercialism that we are bombarded with. The stores want to sell us products—they try to convince us that the holiday season just won’t be complete without that $150 toy. A $150 toy that our children might play with for a week.
And, it’s because of this that several years ago, I decided to get away from all that. I opt for simple want-wear-read-need gifts. My children are happier—I’m happier. I’ve simplified Christmas and embraced what the season means to me. It’s a time for friends, faith and family and less about the hustle that causes me unneeded stress.
This is why I’ve been kind of quiet on the blog front these past few days. I wanted to step away from everything and enjoy the spirit of Christmas. My miracles—my children and my family. I wanted to reflect on the blessings that we received in 2017. A heart that is now a perfectly normal size for my four-year-old. Confirmation that despite tinnitus, migraines with temporary loss of vision and pressure headaches, my brain is free of tumors or abnormalities. Never have I been happier than to hear that my brain is, “unremarkable.” Am I not blessed?!
Peace. I have peace. I have a savior that loves me. Beautiful children and a husband that supports me. This is what Christmas is to me.
So, I will keep this message brief. I want to remind everyone to take a moment, enjoy what you have. Count your blessings. Feel the peace, joy and hope that the holiday brings. Know that I appreciate each of you that takes time to like, read and comment on my blog. Each of you mean more to me than you could ever know.
Rest. Relax. Enjoy.
Have a blessed and beautiful Holiday,
(Christmas, Yule or holiday of choice)
Kristin (ASEL|A Simply Enchanted Life)
